Position Overview:

The Associate Category Manager is an entry level role responsible for the management of selected categories in the convenience store retail environment. This will include contributing to setting the strategic direction of the category, vendor management and initiatives required to achieve sales and profit objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Negotiates agreements and supply, and manages vendor relationships with preferred       convenience store suppliers for assigned categories.
  • Manages product assortment and product specifications in assigned categories in order to identify and address opportunities with the business and the market to maximize sales and margin opportunities.
  • Develops and communicates business plans that maximize sales, margin dollars and margin percentage based on current business trends and additional business and external market factors.
  • Identifies items to maximize promotional and marketing strategies to meet sales and margin goals.
  • Provides field leadership teams and store operators with relevant and timely communication required to maximize sales and margin.
  • Assists in the support, maintenance and updating of the price book ERP system.
  • Responsible for the strategy, budget, planning and execution of the annual Retail Strategy Meeting and Buying Show.
  • Responsible for the overall company promotional merchandising program, which includes managing the selection, production, distribution, inventory and invoicing.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related field.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in a directly related role, which includes store retail operations and systems experience.    
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Persuasive communicator, presenter and negotiator.
  • Self-starter who is able to manage time well.
  • Able to plan, execute and juggle multiple projects and priorities successfully.
  • Previous experience leading projects.
  • Excellent analytical skills with proven attention to detail.
  • Must be highly competent in the use of Microsoft suite of software. Must be able to create, export, manipulate data, create reports and spreadsheets.
  • Able to communicate effectively in both official languages, both verbal and written.

Other:

  • While based in Maxville, Ontario, this position requires occasional travel to various operator locations.
  • Requires valid driver's license and reliable transportation
