About the role

We are looking for a Buyer (Maternity Leave Contract) to join our fast growing organization!

There is a possibility of permanency at the end of the contract.

This role is accountable for the planning, control and coordination of buying activities in the Kits and Hard Goods categories in order to achieve increasingly profitable growth. The Buyer supports and reports to the Director of Merchandising in overall strategy, merchandising and planning for this category. The Senior Buyer establishes merchandising strategies, supports marketing, wholesale and ecommerce initiatives and inventory flow through while working cross-functionally with multiple departments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and implement buying strategies and reflecting these strategies in a realistic OTB budget;
  • Forecast and achieve the budgeted sales, gross margin, and turnover rate in your product category by developing, implementing and following up to ensure guidelines and check points are established (and employ corrective measures when required) for all buying activities, in alignment with overall Kits and Hard Goods strategy;
  • Ensure the assortment effectiveness in order to achieve financial objectives by proper line review process and appropriate buying strategies;
  • Enhance the Hard Goods and Kits strategies by identifying new item development opportunities;
  • Develop, monitor and ensure correct stock levels to maximize sales and profitability, and reduce mark-downs;
  • Provide recommendations for retail prices, mark-downs and Amazon assortments;
  • Ensure optimum pricing, while aligning with Hard Goods and Kits competitors in the market, in order to achieve financial thresholds and product margin targets;
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the marketing program by providing input concerning which products to promote to ensure category growth
  • Assess market trends and future opportunities in terms of products, cost and quality issues, and complete regular competitive analysis;
  • Provide input with respect to product, web and visual merchandising
  • Responsible for the front-end of the product creation cycle through product ideation support, brief creation and coordination of product design/development.
  • Point of contact for internal communication documents such as Action Sheets, PKs, promo requests, price changes, etc.
  • Work closely with design team and vendors to ensure that expectations are met and respected for each collection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree ideally in Business, or Supply Chain;
  • 5 years of experience in a buying role, ideally in the retail industry;
  • Strong experience working cross-functionally with multiple teams;
  • Experience within tea or coffee industry, an asset;
  • Product development background and familiarity with the product creation process and assortment planning is an asset;
  • Sharp analytical skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office, particularly Excel;
  • Knowledge of Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) an asset;
  • Bilingual (English & French);
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong negotiation skills;
  • Strong multitasker, able to prioritize workload to meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proactive problem-solver;
  • Team player willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
