Job Description: RESPONSIBILITIES AND Accountabilities: Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards. May assist with store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays. Replenish inventory levels based on directions. Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring. Takes responsibility for the accurate financial transactions including credit card, debit, and cash. Perform daily cash-outs, including balancing sales and floats. Complies with all safety procedures and in/outdoor tidy maintenance guidelines. Performs janitorial duties as requested. NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties. * Supported by task list. Working Conditions: Serves in a store or warehouse, within a busy CFS ministry. The location of work may create a possibility of experiencing the following disagreeable conditions: angry/abusive people and verbal abuse, minor risk of harm, injury, illness due to physical attacks from others and/or exposure to infectious diseases. Emergency Response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc.) Dirty environment / odours (garbage, washrooms) Truck fumes Excessive noise Work schedule may impact life (weeknights and weekends) Monotonous work (repetitive tasks) Increased potential for on-site accidents (moving or sharp objects) Exposure to toxic chemicals Exposure to bodily fluids Other potentially dangerous situations (unsafe donations) Store Hours generally Monday – Saturday but require some flexibility for special events or urgent situations. Not required to travel. HEALTH & SAFETY Required to complete general orientation, including safety in the workplace training and annual review. Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store/warehouse, cleans spillage). Universal precautions: wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including gloves/glasses. Use anti-fatigue mats when necessary. The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. education and experience Qualifications: The successful candidate must have completed some High School. Prior related experience, including in a warehouse or thrift store setting, is an asset. Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements: Must hold or obtain a recent Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, satisfactory to TSA. Must receive clearance from TSA Abuse Registry Check. Required to complete WHMIS training annually. Required to complete Praesidium Academy training modules relevant to position. Current certification in First Aid / CPR, or willingness to obtain, is an asset. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: Characteristics: energetic, takes initiative, team player, organized and productive. Creative and flexible with the ability to adapt based on team, program, and service needs. Skills and Capabilities: The performance of the job requires physical dexterity; frequently sitting for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling and lifting up to 25lbs. May on occasion be required to lift, move, or transport weights up to 50lbs. Attention to detail and the ability to follow directions and well-defined steps. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $18.25 to $21.04 with a maximum of $23.82. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. Requirements
Candidates must have some high school education and be able to pass a Criminal Records Check and Abuse Registry Check. Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs and a willingness to complete WHMIS and Praesidium Academy training are required.
