RETAIL MANAGER – CANNABIS & VAPE Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent Schedule: Days, Evenings, Weekends & Holidays ABOUT THE ROLE True North Cannabis Co. & True North Vape are looking for an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Retail Manager to join our team. This is an active leadership role for someone who is comfortable balancing people, operations, customer service, compliance, inventory, and day-to-day problem solving. Our Managers are expected to lead by example and take ownership of their store. This includes supporting employees, maintaining store standards, responding to operational issues, and helping ensure the store remains properly staffed and operational during scheduled business hours. The successful candidate must be comfortable working within both cannabis and vape/tobacco retail environments based on operational requirements. WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR STORE OPERATIONS * Support and oversee daily retail operations. * Complete and oversee opening and closing procedures. * Manage cash handling, cash-outs, deposits, and discrepancies. * Ensure operational checklists and required store documentation are completed. * Maintain store cleanliness, organization, merchandising, and presentation standards. * Identify operational issues and take appropriate action to resolve them. TEAM LEADERSHIP * Supervise, coach, and support employees. * Provide ongoing feedback and address performance concerns. * Support employee onboarding and training. * Reinforce company policies, procedures, attendance expectations, dress code, and customer service standards. * Assist with performance management and employee documentation when required. * Lead by example and maintain a professional, respectful workplace. SCHEDULING & STORE COVERAGE Our Managers play an important role in maintaining reliable store coverage. You will be expected to: * Respond to employee call-ins and scheduling issues. * Proactively assist with finding coverage when required. * Adjust schedules and contact available employees where appropriate. * Provide direct store coverage when reasonably required. * Escalate unresolved coverage issues promptly to senior management. * Help ensure the store opens on time and remains operational throughout scheduled business hours. This position requires flexibility and reliability, particularly when unexpected staffing or operational issues arise. CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE * Ensure customers receive professional, knowledgeable, and friendly service. * Support employees with customer questions, complaints, and escalations. * Maintain a welcoming and professional retail environment. * Ensure all sales and customer interactions comply with company policies and applicable regulations. COMPLIANCE As a Manager in a regulated retail environment, you will help ensure compliance with applicable cannabis, tobacco, and vape requirements. Responsibilities include: * Ensuring proper ID verification and refusal-of-service procedures. * Reinforcing AGCO and CannSell requirements. * Supporting compliance with applicable cannabis, tobacco, vape, and Smoke-Free Ontario requirements. * Maintaining accurate records and audit readiness. * Immediately escalating compliance concerns or suspected breaches. INVENTORY & LOSS PREVENTION * Support receiving, inventory counts, and reconciliation. * Monitor inventory movement and investigate discrepancies. * Ensure products are stored and handled appropriately. * Reinforce POS and product-scanning procedures. * Support loss-prevention and security procedures. * Report suspected theft, fraud, or inventory concerns. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * Minimum 2 years of retail supervisory or management experience preferred. * Valid CannSell Certification or ability to obtain/maintain required certification. * Strong leadership and communication skills. * Comfortable providing direction, coaching, and accountability to employees. * Experience with POS systems, cash handling, deposits, and inventory controls. * Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. * Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. * Dependable, flexible, and willing to step in when operationally required. * Knowledge of cannabis and/or vape/tobacco retail is an asset. * Ability to successfully complete required background screening. AVAILABILITY Our retail locations operate 7 days per week, with operating hours that may range from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Applicants must have flexible availability and be able to work a combination of: * Days * Evenings * Weekends * Holidays This is a retail management position and is not a Monday-to-Friday, 9-to-5 role. Managers must have sufficient flexibility to support the operational needs of their store and team. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This is an active retail position. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of the role, with accommodation where required. The position may involve: * Standing and walking for extended periods, including shifts of 8–10 hours. * Working primarily on tiled or hard flooring. * Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting, pushing, and pulling. * Receiving, stocking, and moving inventory. * Lifting and carrying items weighing up to approximately 50 lbs. * Working in an environment where cannabis and/or tobacco-related product odours may be present. WORKING ACROSS OUR BRANDS Based on operational requirements, Managers may be assigned responsibilities within True North Cannabis Co. and True North Vape and may be required to support alternate locations. Candidates must be comfortable working in both cannabis and vape/tobacco retail environments and maintaining all required certifications for regulated product sales. WHY JOIN TRUE NORTH?
