About the Role:

The Fish Clerk plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Olive Branch Fish department, focusing on providing exceptional customer service and maintaining high standards of product quality. This full-time position involves managing the display, handling, and sale of fresh fish products, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The Fish Clerk will be responsible for assisting customers with product selection, offering knowledgeable advice about different types of fish and seafood, and answering any related inquiries. Additionally, the role requires maintaining inventory accuracy, restocking displays, and supporting the team in daily operational tasks to meet sales targets. Ultimately, the Fish Clerk contributes to a positive shopping experience that encourages repeat business and upholds the reputation of our seafood department in Canada.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a retail or food handling environment, preferably in seafood or grocery.
  • Basic knowledge of fish and seafood types and handling procedures.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting and stocking.
  • Familiarity with health and safety standards related to food handling.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in food safety or handling (e.g., Food Handler Certification).
  • Experience using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Strong customer service background with excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of sustainable seafood practices and sourcing.
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly in English and French, to better serve diverse customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist customers in selecting fresh and frozen fish and seafood products, providing detailed product information and recommendations.
  • Prepare and package fish and seafood items according to company standards and customer specifications.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the seafood display area, ensuring all products are properly labeled and stored at appropriate temperatures.
  • Monitor inventory levels, receive deliveries, and restock products to ensure availability and freshness.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations to guarantee product quality and customer safety.
  • Process sales transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems and handle customer payments.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve daily sales goals and maintain a positive work environment.
