The Junior Designer is responsible for collaborating with design leaders to ensure graphic art and typography are innovative, exceed company-wide expectations, and delight customers, while being of excellent quality and within target costs. The Junior Designer, paper and packaging will contribute to innovative proprietary collections that will set and maintain the bar for design and quality at a level that is amongst the top tier within the retail industry.KEY PERFORMANCE METRICSDelivery of collections on time, on budget, and within scopeSatisfaction of all cross-functional partnersBrand appropriate product design and positive consumer responseKEY ACCOUNTABILITIESFunctionalWorks closely with Paper Designer and Paper & Packaging Design Manager, cross-functional merchant and sourcing team, artists and CAD to ensure smooth execution of production artworkConcurrently support multiple seasonal collections at various stages from conceptualization through to productionCreate technical specs and comprehensive tech-packs that are sent to vendors for developmentSupport creation of graphics and artwork from inception to final product, resizing and reformatting images based on needs of various product and packagingManage samples, ensuring that they meet quality and design standards, and present samples to key cross-functional partners on a seasonal basisManage development status and timeline as part of sample process, review and tracking all changes to product specs and relay comments and revisions to vendors prior to final productionWork with merchant and sourcing teams to address design and production issuesKeep up-to-date and informed of emerging trends, ensuring Indigo’s product design meets the highest design and quality standardsAct as an advocate for the customer by placing them at the forefront of all decision-making and design processes, proactively identify and anticipate customer expectations and needsChallenge the status quo by consistently identifying areas for improvement, diagnosing issues and working to resolve themPeopleCollaborate with others to drive flexible and iterative solutions, quickly and easilyShare technical knowledge with others and actively seek to learn from those more knowledgeable than yourselfHelp others see the impacts of their efforts and proactively engage other functions to get inputEncourage others to freely share their point of view and be open to feedbackCulturalModel Indigo’s beliefs and convey a positive image in everything you doCelebrate diversity of thought and have an open mindsetTake an active role in fostering a culture of continual learning, taking risks without the fear of making mistakesEmbrace, champion and influence change through your team and/or the organizationSCOPEReports to: Manager, Production Design                   Manager once Removed (MOR): VP, Design StudioKEY RELATIONSHIPSInternal:Design StudioSourcing, PDMerchant groupsExternal:CADArtistsQualificationsWork Experience / Education / CertificationsPost-secondary degree or diploma in graphic design or design-related fieldMinimum 2-3 years’ experience in an agency or in-house creative shopCompetencies / Skills / AttributesStrong understanding and ability in graphic design, page layout and typographyKnowledge in graphics manipulation using the following software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, ProcreateStrong attention to detail and professionalism, communication skills, both verbal and writtenAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to work cooperatively on a team to achieve overall best resultsStrong time management skills with a proven ability to focus on multiple priorities and meet deadlinesUnderstanding of industry standards and best practices for design and development in a retail environmentExceptional organizational and communication skillsBranding and package design experience an assetAdditional InformationThis posting is for a current opportunity within Indigo.Indigo uses artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with certain aspects of the hiring process, such as screening and assessments.
