About the Role
As the Lumber Yard Supervisor, you’ll lead the daily operations of the yard – overseeing the Yard Team, maintaining accurate inventory, and ensuring customers get expert advice and great service every time they visit. Safety is at the heart of this role: you’ll be responsible for ensuring every team member works safely, every day, without exception.
You’ll work closely with management on inventory accuracy and larger project goals, train and develop your team, and be the go-to person for product expertise in the yard. This role suits someone who leads by example – hands-on, organized, safety-focused, and genuinely invested in the development of the people around them.
What You’ll Be Doing
Team Leadership & Safety
- Providing training and development to all Yard Team members
- Ensuring all staff work safely at all times, with a 100% commitment to providing and upholding a safe work environment
- Maintaining all mobile equipment in safe, working condition
- Leading by example in safe work practices and reinforcing safety standards across the team
Inventory & Yard Operations
- Monitoring lumber inventory and conducting cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory levels
- Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of inventory received
- Maintaining an organized yard with lumber piles properly flat-stacked
- Building product orders as necessary for delivery
- Completing and maintaining all necessary lumber order paperwork, and working with other store units to coordinate paperwork
- Working with management to support larger project goals and inventory accuracy initiatives
Customer Experience
- Providing expert product knowledge and advice to all lumber customers
- Delivering a high level of customer service – timely, efficient, and considerate at every interaction
What We’re Looking For
Here’s what you’ll need to be successful in this role:
- Valid driver’s license, a current driver’s abstract, and a current forklift certification are required to apply
- Highly skilled in providing timely, efficient, and considerate customer service
- Excellent listening, communication, and organizational skills
- Strong leadership skills – you can train, develop, and motivate a team while leading by example
- Detail oriented with a strong commitment to following and enforcing safe work practices
- Exceptional time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks involving stretching, bending, lifting, and carrying objects of varying weights
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- Experience with yard tools (cut saw, banding wrenches, truck straps, etc.) and equipment such as forklifts, reach trucks, or order pickers is an asset
- Strong product knowledge of lumber and building materials is a strong asset
