Description

The Thrift Store Manager positions provides direct supervision to all aspects of the operation of the Thrift Store. The Manager ensures that sales targets are met, and expenses are controlled.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Duties:

  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and orientation process for thrift store staff.
  • Prepare monthly staff schedule and bi-weekly payroll.
  • Provide supervision, training, and annual performance review for all thrift store staff.
  • Prepare and monitor the Thrift Store Budget in conjunction with Executive Director.
  • Analyze store financial statements, in conjunction with Executive Director, and strategizes appropriate action to attain financial goals.
  • Schedule and chair regular Thrift Store Staff Meetings, ensuring minutes are distributed.
  • Participate in the development of Policy & Procedures and Strategic Plan.

Thrift Store Management Duties:

  • Ensure all staff and volunteers maintain a high standard of customer service.
  • Complete daily bank deposit at end of day and prepare daily deposit summary form. Submit daily deposit form to Regional Accounting daily.
  • Oversee store management including cleaning, maintenance, repairs in/outside and grounds maintenance.
  • Ensure in-store safety for staff, customers, and volunteers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness dealing with volatile situation); ensure that the property is secured at all times.
  • Assist with tasks in the sorting room and store as required.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers answer telephone in a professional manner.
  • Plan store layout to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays, decide on in-store promotions and auctions and keeps abreast of marketing trends by checking competitor's stock; ensure attractiveness of the store through" Tidy Maintenance".
  • Determine and maintain appropriate inventory levels based on spot checks of the store and reviewing weekly sales records.
  • Maintain control of inventory by ensuring store donations are retrieved, sorted, and priced appropriately; protect the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring.
  • Ensure all internal Policies and Procedures as well as Health and Safety issues are addressed and adhered by all Staff and Volunteers.
  • Maintain and submit volunteer statistical records, on a weekly basis, to Administrative Assistant.

Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work schedule will be Monday to Saturday and can include days, evening and weekends.
  • Your supervisor sets the hours of work and work schedule and flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Work environment is in a Thrift Store setting with frequent interruptions and multitasking.
  • Minimal travel is required.
  • Frequent amount of sitting, computer work, occasionally bending, walking, standing, and lifting a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Frequent amount of computer/word processing, close attention when working with numbers, charts, and tables.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a diploma in business, retail or a combination of education and experience equivalent.
  • Completion of Non-Violence Crisis Intervention Training or willingness to obtain.
  • Current First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • The incumbent must have minimum of three (3) years of prior related experience in store management.
  • Previous experience in managing staff and volunteers.
  • Previous background in fashion an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with irate customer and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Window, Microsoft Works, Excel, Internet
  • Possess excellent problem solving, communication, computer, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member with other staff, volunteers, donors, and customers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Possess a positive attitude and works well with other team members.
  • Display tact, discretion, compassion, and non-judgmental attitude.
  • To maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and staff of The Salvation Army.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
