Position Summary...

The Manager, Marketplace Business Development - is accountable for prospecting, recruiting, establishing partnerships and onboarding sellers & strategic sellers to Walmart Canada Marketplace.

In this role, you will develop and execute both inbound and outbound tactics to find and target sellers that help us achieve our marketplace strategy. You will develop a category strategy to build a strong pipeline of sellers that are of key importance to be on Walmart Canada Marketplace. You will leverage creative solutions to scale the number of inbound sellers in your pipeline. You will negotiate and execute Seller agreements and gain a commitment from Sellers to meet their contractual service level agreements. You will successfully launch new sellers to achieve monthly targets. You will work with cross functional partners in Operations, Technology and Support to support the seller as they onboard. You will be the POC on global tech and marketing initiatives and facilitate global account relationships. Upon successful launch, you will develop and lead a post go-live support program to ensure a smooth and complete transition to the Marketplace Key Account Management teams.

You will seek to understand the industry dynamics for your categories, research and prepare target segments, create pitches for targeted outbound sellers and initiate discussions. You will be responsible for continuously evaluating our program, including our fee position against our competitors in the Canadian marketplace. You will seek to understand how to create ongoing and incremental value for active Marketplace Sellers based on Seller feedback, market benchmarks and global Marketplace developments by Walmart International/US as well as other competitors.

Top candidates for this position will have a solid background in business development, account/category management, sales, and negotiations. A successful candidate must have strong communication skills and the ability to effectively articulate our value proposition to potential Sellers. You will have a passion for retail and an understanding of ecommerce development, trends, category strategy and technology. Experience with lead generation tools such as Sales Force, and expertise with office tools such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint will be extremely useful.

What you'll do...

Develop a strategy to find, pitch to and sign Sellers to capitalize on market trends and fill category gaps.

Develop a framework to evaluate and identify sellers aligned with marketplace strategy.

Build a pipeline of potential Sellers and create a communication plan.

Support seller 30 days post launch to ensure MVL (Minimum Viable Launch) targets are achieved.

Follow an account-based business development approach - Negotiate and execute Seller agreements and secure commitment from Sellers to achieve agreed upon service levels.

Work with Marketing and other internal partners and Sellers to develop programs to drive Marketplace Sellers success.

Own the Seller relationship from prospect through successful hand-off to account management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • > 5 years of account management, category management and retail experience required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort presenting a sales proposition is a must
  • Experience in Retail Merchandising, Product Marketing, or e-Commerce is an asset
  • Comfort working with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is an asset
