The Project Manager, Construction is a key member of the Project Team, responsible for the financial bottom line of the Project, as well as being the Quality Control and Assurance representative of Holt Renfrew in all dealings with the Constructors, Consultants, and Internal Stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Coordinates with the Director/Senior Manager of Construction, the Store, and the General Contractor and internal teams to execute the project from inception to completion
  • Plans the construction project and prepares the draft construction schedule in conjunction with the Director/Senior Manager of Construction
  • Reviews the contract drawings and specifications and ensures that the building is built in accordance with these documents
  • Ensure that the contract drawings in the possession of the General Contractor are current, and have incorporated all Request for Information (RFI), Contemplated Change Notice (CCN), and Change Notice (CN) revisions
  • Process changes received from the General Contractor in conjunction with the Architect and other consultants including review and substantiation of pricing, checking subcontractor quotations to ensure that they are complete and reasonable, addressing any impact to the schedule
  • Meet with Contractors, Architects, and Stakeholders in a professional manner and have the ability to communicate effectively both the concerns and best interests of the company
  • Process monthly contract draws and in conjunction with the Architect and other Consultants ensure the requested payment is in full accordance with the contract price including all accumulative changes and credits, etc., and that it represent an accurate value based on the level of completion
  • Instill a positive working relationship with the General Contractor, Architect and other Consultants to ensure repeat business
  • Have the ability to read, interpret, analyze and forecast a project's cost reports and determine the status of the job in terms of schedule and costing
  • Be aware of unit costs and monitor and compare daily progress on site with that of the project's estimate in conjunction with the Project Superintendent
  • Conduct project meetings, weekly or bi-weekly as needed
  • Coordinate, manage and communicate with the Contractor and effectively deal with problems such as delivery, labour forces on site, schedule and payment disputes
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of trade unions, their agreements and stipulations
  • Lead, motivate, and retain a team of high performing employees that is capable of delivering results

The ideal candidate:

  • Educational and experience requirements include engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training plus 7 years' experience / knowledge of construction, design, finance and management required
  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written French is an asset
  • Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance
  • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards etc. and their impact on project activities are vital
  • Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence etc.) skills essential
  • Proficiency in department's computer system, department software, and typing necessary
